JAMES MCMURTRIE’S GLASS ART REFLECTS AN INTIMATE CONNECTION WITH VICTORIA'S GRAMPIANS DISTRICT IN SOUTH EASTERN AUSTRALIA.
Growing up on his family’s farm near Stawell and now living in the shadow of the Mount William Range in Pomonal, James' life is seeped in the sights, sounds and smells of the beautiful Western Victorian landscape. Back-grounded by the majestic Grampians Mountains (Gariwerd), his art reflects the textures and forms wrought by powerful forces of nature.
“My works are inspired by my immediate surroundings, depicting seasons, droughts, the effects of bush fire on the landscape, regrowth and the colour and forms of mountains, they provide a canvas for my feelings and visions of our land”
